What are Eyelash Extensions and how are they applied?
Eyelash extensions are fibres grafted to each individual lash with tweezers, particular techniques and a strong bonding agent.
How long do Eyelash Extensions last?
To maintain a full look infills are recommended every 2-3 weeks. You can manage to extend the life of the extensions over 4 weeks for example if you go on a long holiday. Your natural lashes grow and shed as part of their cycle. You will find Extensions last longer at certain points than others. This is normal. Lash Artists can not tell what part of the cycle you are in therefore early falls of the extensions are possible if the natural lash is in the phase where it is ready to fall.
Will Eyelash Extensions ruin my lashes?
It is my job to apply them correctly and your job to take care of them thereafter. Certain things contribute to wear and tear like your sleep habits, makeup etc. It is recommended you use a silk pillowcase and if possible sleep on your back. Be gentle with the extensions, do not pick, pull or rub them.
I have been told Eyelash Extensions ruin your lashes and make them fall out!
This can happen if extensions are too heavy for the natural lashes - which is up to the Lash Artist to ensure the correct weight is applied. Over the 5 years I have been Lashing I have noticed clients become very used to waking up with black curled extensions, and when they are no longer there it is quite a difference. They cant really remember what their natural lashes looked like in the first place so the contrast plays games! Having had extensions for years myself I know my lashes only fell out if I pulled them out or as part of the growth cycle
Will extensions irritate my eyes?
Once they are applied you should not be able to feel any difference. You must be careful not to rub your eyes as it can damage the lashes and feel uncomfortable. It is also important to ensure you are careful when using a towel to dry your face as the cotton fibres can catch on the extensions.
A small number of people are allergic to components of the bonding agent. Common symptoms are itching, redness, excessive eye watering and puffy eyes. If you experience any or all of these symptoms, please contact me straight away.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Please arrive free of makeup. It is particularly important for there to be no trace of mascara on your eyes as most mascara contails oil which will cause issues with the bond.
Can I wear makeup on my extensions?
This will shorten the lifespan of the glue bond and therefore you will need infills sooner. The ingredients of your eye makeup products will need to be checked. Look for water based liquid liners etc. Wearing mascara or thick gel liner can also be very damaging to your natural lashes due to the fact it causes the the extensions to stick together. Mascara will also close up volume fans meaning the lashes will look like thick heavy stalks. If the makeup is not removed correctly (with water based remover ONLY, not oil based makeup remover) the lashes will be extremely difficult to infill. For this reason you may need a new set.
